Publications - Standards

ITU Recommendations are available direct from ITU.

The Society also has permission to distribute a version of the standards free to members (click here).

ITU-T is now also offering some PDF versions of various standards for free download. However, these PDF versions of the SDL and MSC standards do not include the syntax hyperlinks that can be found in the Microsoft Word files on the SDL Forum Site.

SDL Forum Society Members can usually download the most up to date versions, and also can participate in the discussion on the evolution of MSC and SDL and download documents under discussion. See the members download area (username and password needed). In particular, the members versions of Z.100 and Z.120 contain hyperlinks and are available in MSWord format as well as PDF. The members area also includes Z.106 (which defines the textual alternative to graphical parts of the Z.100 language used for interchange of models between tools) and Z.121 (the data binding for the Z.120 language to the Z.100 language). These two documents are not available in the free download area of ITU-T.

A selection of the PDF files available from ITU-T is:

Z.100 (08/02) Specification and description language (SDL)

Z.100 Annex F1 (11/00) SDL formal definition - General

Z.100 Annex F2 (11/00) SDL formal definition - Well-formedness and Transformation rules

Z.100 Annex F3 (11/00) SDL formal definition - Dynamic Semantics

Z.110 (11/00) Criteria for use of formal description techniques by ITU-T

Z.120 (11/99) Message Sequence Charts (MSC)

Other free PDF ITU language Recommendations: Full list

An individual person (identified by email address) is allowed a number of free downloads per year from the ITU electronic bookshop. It is also possible to purchase ANY of the Z Series Recommendations from ITU-T by credit card for download.

ITU-T Recommendations are available in English, French and Spanish in hard-copy format and (for most of them) on CD-ROM.
